    '56 power top question

Anyone out there with an original 56 power top still in place? I ordered new harness pieces for mine and I got two items that I think only apply to '57, a deck lid switch harness and a top frame limit switch harness that don't seem to be needed. My research shows that these are for 57 tops and not 56 but Lectric Limited has them as part of their 56 only package. Mine has the original toggle switches as shown in Nolands book, and the main harness connects right to them. These items seem to be for the smaller safety switches where the harness screws on at one end and female connector on the other. These are the ones that on a '57 are to the outboard of the passenger seat and on the passenger side of the trunk. My question is, before I send these two items back, these are not needed for an original '56 power top set up correct?
    Thanks.

56 and 57 are different animals , 56 is like NO other harness ( your right), 57 only difference is the TOP pull switch connection , 58 to 62 are all the same. Send them back ,they should know this????

This is how I used to show my 57, only a power top Corvette can hold the top up like this as I raised the soft top half way up also just for show.
Looking at Corvette guys faces seeing the hard top held up like that was worth it, never had a problem with the lid . I think I was the first 37 years ago showing a power top working, many never knew Corvette back then had a PT option.

Roy, thanks for confirming this for me. BTW- do you still have this '57? I see your name in a Mike Hunt log of '56/'57 owners that I recently bought.

I gave it to my daughter to sell , I had it for 32 years ,paid $150.00 for it, was a FI, PT, PW , Automatic, and well used sold it 8 years ago for 69K so she could buy a home.
Also sold 54 and 55 for my sons to help them get started in life. I cant save money but cars! yes! for the kids. Felt good to help them , great kids! God was good to me.But I kept the only two I really always liked my 55 and 67.

Gary, Not sure I understand your exact description but you can buy a 56
or 57 wiring harnass. The 56 set-up has the dash pull switch and relay
connection on the firewall with a wire to the starter. Then a lid safety
switch between seats and two toggle switches behind the pass. seats. Then
a safety switch at the left trunk hinge and a toggle switch activated by
the trunk cylinder.Of course all the motor/pump wiring. You need wiring for
all this and a ground strap under the car.Hope this helps.

                Robert,
I have all of what you listed, but the problem is that I have two additional harness sections that Lectric Limited said that I needed that I clearly don't need for a '56. A '57 would need these but not '56. Fortunately i am still within my 90 days to return these two pieces because they were about $66 each. Thanks for your response.

You're right. Toggle switches don't use them *NM*
