    54 rear springs

What is the correct way to paint the rear leaf springs? The NCRS judging manual states that the spring liners should not be painted, which means the leafs were painted separate. I have also read the the springs were painted after assembly so everyting is painted as one. Which is correct?

    Re: 54 rear springs

I keep hearing about spring liners, I've had 5 , 55 Corvettes 4 57 Corvettes and NONE I mean NONE ever had liners , my 55 right now doesn't have them, never did and has the original straps . So what is the story about them ,I know NCRS JM say so but??? Mine have all been Ca. Corvettes is that it?????

Roy- If you like, I can send you a sample...

of the original liners in my 55 rear springs. There are a few chunks missing, but they are 90% still there in my original, untouched springs. Basically impregnated fiber, a sort of glorified cardboard.

        Yes and no...

If I can remember what I've been told, the leaves were painted or coated prior to assembly, the springs were installed, then the chassis was assembled and blacked out. Naturally, coverage was poor and inconsistient, leaving the inner face and top of leaf poorly coated. If I remember right, the long leaf was silver, and the others black. I'm no expert, though.

I have no reason not to believe you but mine don't and some other I' v had don't also. Well it don't matter much to me just keep what I have right or wrong. Dave and use seem to be the few on the forum talking to each other

Checked my 54 there are liners between the leafs. They look like dried out cardboard. They are real dirty, like the rest of the underbody, but look un-painted compared to the leafs.

Roy, ST-12 references "spring leaf inserts" page 4-2 "Maintenance and Adjustments" and page 4-5 top of page #4. I think these are the liners everyone keeps refering to.

Thanks I know what they are and look like, just asking about things that are different . It dont matter.
Did you know I had a Silver 78 also? I ordered two bat mobiles (pace cars) at the same time I ordered my wife's silver before any one knew what they looked like, sold the two bats, and got the silver free, guys were paying 10 to 20K over sticker for them. It came in a day before Xmas .
