Has anyone ever had to space out the hamonic pulley so it would line up with the water pump pully. Im using an after market water pump. The pully 3906656 cv Is almost touching the housing. Yet I need an 1/8th of an inch to space my balancer pulley 3863108 out for it to line up. Is the water pump incorrect Help

Hi Terry
Is there or did you put the spacer between the crank shaft and harmonic balancer? That keeps the balancer out some which also puts the pulley out alittle. I have a 62 vette and had to put one in. Thats the only place I heard of putting spacers.

Re: harmonic pulley does not line up
The spacer for the balancer is used only on C1 to compensate for the thickness of the motor mount plate behind the water pump. No spacer is used on 63 and later. I would guess you have a water pump issue, not a balancer issue.- Top

Re: harmonic pulley does not line up
In addition to what's been said, try to determine if the pulley for the alternator/generator is on the same plane as the water pump or the balancer pulley. In my case (C2), the alternator and balancer pulleys were on the same plane. I needed to press the hub on the water pump shaft an additional 1/8" to bring all 3 into alignment. I used a long straight edge to determine which pulleys were in alignment.
If you have to press the hub on further, remove the backing plate to support the inside end of the water pump shaft.- Top
