What are the engine stamp pad character sizes that are listed in all of the latest JG's for 63-67? Has the difference in size for the different years been corrected in the latest editions?

Re: C2 Stamp Character Size
The '63-4 manual says the Assembly stamping is 1/4" and the VIN Derivative is 3/16".

Re: Seems To Be some Difference of.....
Thanks John. Yes, I suppose that's how it happened. I just don't understand why it happened. I'm really confused on this one. How in the world can cars be properly judged if the rules change from one class to the next for what is basically the exact same item? Someone MUST be wrong because we can't have two correct answers for the same question. With the importance that has been placed on engine stamp pad numbers, this is an area that should require precise judging by people that know what they're doing but if they're sent out on that field with incorrect information, the whole system of pad judging is defeated from the start.
The difference between the height dimensions in the manuals for the engine plant characters from one team to another is substantial. It may sound insignificant but the difference between the 1/4" dim and the 3/16" dim is just about exactly the thickness of a nickle. (1/16" = .0625) How can one team accept characters of one dimension while another team is deduction points for characters of the same dimension?
These dimensions have been posted several times in the last year but It's worth posting again. The large engine plant characters are .1875 or 3/16". The small VIN characters are .15625 or 5/32". We can add roughly .020"-.025" to these dims, depending on how deep the strike was.
If I were the owner of a 63-64, 66 or 67 that I was going to have judged, I would most definitely be contacting the team leader for my class to get this straightened out. I would sure hate to see a car with a genuine original engine loose points because of an error in the JG.- Top

Re: Seems To Be some Difference of.....
Michael what I read is that all the mid years are the same... 1/4" and 3/16". There was a change in the VIN derivative beginning in 68... approx 1/8"
Most, if not all judges at Regionals and the National, are very qualified to pass opinions. The "calling" of a pad is usually a consensus of opinion by the two judges, the team leader, and sometime the National Judging Chairman.Dick Whittington- Top
