engine/tranny numbers

I am trying to determine if my 1980 L82 is an original engine/tranny car. Could someone inform me where to locate the engine casting numbers along with the tranny numbers. Thanks Jim

The engine ID is stamped into the front right of the engine block (if your facing forward), Take a rag and wipe the area directly infront of the valve cover and a stamp should appear. Check the last six or seven numbers againt the last numbers on your ownership and if the numbers line up its most likely the original engine. The tranny should have some markings as well have a look.
