    C-1 Windshield Reveal

I have installed the windshield with a new gasket but am now baffled as how to install the reveal molding. Is it just a matter of pushing it into a non-hardening sealer ?

    thanks

    Dwight -

I haven't done a C1 windshield in ten years, but as I recall, the lower reveal molding goes on the assembly before the assembly goes back on the car. CRS may have set in, however - others will comment.

Roy, I am talking about the stainless steel lower reveal molding on the windshield. It covers the ower frame assembly. It does not have a lip on the top inside to hook onto the lower frame assembly so I did not think it attached until the assembly was on the car but I am getting a bad feeling that I will have to pull the windshield out again. But still puzzled as to how it attaches. It has been a year since I removed it and my memory is not as good as it used to be.

        Thanks
        Dwight

          Dwight--
Don't shoot the messenger (me) because you don't like the message. The molding has to be fastened to and centered on the lower channel before it all goes together. The side posts need to slide in and under the stainless molding as a part of the assembly. My guess is that it went together rather easily (too easilt) with the molding not a part of that process.

Thanks Mike. The molding must go onto the lower frame assembly before the rubber and glass are fit into the frame. Wow. Another four hour ordeal on my back and I put all the nuts and washers on all the bolts.

              Dwight,
Don't despair, after pulling a C1 windshied out a few more times, you will be able to do it in yout sleep! LOL Like most tasks on these old cars, the first time is the hardest, and it gets real easy after you have done it a couple of times.

John, there is a lot to be said for experience, which by the way ,thanks for your earlier advice not to use a sealant. I didn't listen, tried it anyway, then ended up getting a new gasket and doing it without, as you suggested. I feel like I am learning a lot but it is a lot like life - as they say - just when you have it all figured out you die.

Boy you got that right! Don't you wish you had another life to live, where you would not have to make all the stupid mistakes of the former one! A real smart old guy that taught me my trade had a good analogy, He said that you started work with two bags, one filled with luck and one empty one that you filled with experience. The trick is to fill the bag with experience before you empty the bag of luck!

John, great philosophy. One I will have to remember. After seven unsucessful hours of trying to get the lower frame and molding on I believe that my bag of luck has run out before my bag of experience has begun to fill. I think for today I am ready to trade my bags of a bottle,--- of Jack that is. Have a good week.
