    Re: Muncie Transmission Tag

    Hi Mike,

I've seen a few of the C3 tags with the two letter code after the part number but I don't know what it means. It may be an in house Muncie code that describes the unit instead of using the full seven digit part number?

I believe the "assembly" number (on the tag) changed based on combinations of the following for midyears:

      Gearset (wide vs. close ratio)

DRIVE gears ("large" 8-tooth for the 3.08-3.70 family , "small" 8-tooth for the 3.70-4.11 family, or special "small" 6-tooth for 4.56 axles)

If the later Muncies had a 2-character alpha code suffix on the tag, that was probably the Broadcast code.

There's probably a chart for this somewhere, but if there is, I haven't seen it.
