Distributor wire hold down retainer and bolt plate are black finish. Bolt had various platings. Distributor and hold down were not installed at time of orange engine paint application.

I Agree With Michael Murray.....

...I think the distributor, clamp, retainer and bolt were in place when the engine was painted. These parts would all be moly orange on any engine with a cast iron intake manifold.

That's correct - midyear Flint engines had the distributor in place on the hot-test stand to run the engine and set the timing, and the engines were painted after hot-test; a mask (metal can) was placed over the distributor prior to entering the paint booth, and most got orange paint on the hold-down hardware and collar portion of the distributor housing that was exposed below the bottom edge of the can.
