C3 brake /clutch pedal housings same or different?

I have a brake / clutch pedal housing from two 68s, one is from a BB 4spd, and one is from a small block automatic. The housings look to be the same with one exception, the one from the automatic has two square holes in the front mounting section (to the fire wall) with steel taps to hold the bolts in place for installation? The one from the BB 4spd has four round holes and no metal tabs to hold the bolts in place. Both of these appeared to have never been removed before and they are from cars about two weeks apart in production dates. Were the brakets for Automatics actually different, or was this just a progression in production and assembly?

    Anyone know? Just curious.

    Thanks,

    Steve

One more question I guess, did the 4spd. have the brake pedal spring also then?
Mine is gone if it came with one, and the automatic assembly I have, still has the spring, which is painted Orange over black.

        Thanks agian,

        Steve

          Steve -

If it's like C2's, power brake cars didn't use the brake pedal return spring, as that function was provided by the booster.

            power vs manual brakes

The 1969 and later housing for the power brakes has 4 plain holes at the firewall for the brake booster studs to go through. The manual brake version has two holes with welded on square shaped nuts and two bolts attached with the clips.

In addition, the distance from the upper to lower holes is different on the power vs manual brake brackets.

On the 1969, the actual sheet metal bracket for the 4 speed car looks very similar to the automatic, only the pedals appear different, but it's been about 2 years since I last looked at them side by side.

Also, the 1969 and later power brake pedal assemblies had a return spring on the pivot for the pedal (at least the 2 auto pedals in my parts bin do, I haven't crawled upside down into my cars to check on the 4 speed units.

            Hope this helps,
            Mark

Thanks! That explains why my 4spd doesn't have the spring, it's a PB car.

              Thanks again,

              Steve
