    Hey John Wagonner!!!

    John,

Twice tonight I have tried to respond to others' messages, but instead of having my new notes show up under theirs, I end up posting a new message. And yes, I am hitting the "Post New Response" and it says I am responding to their note.

Any clue what is going on? I've never had this before.

    Re: Hey John Waggoner!!!

    Patrick,

I don't have a clue. When you post a response message make sure that the subject automatically is entered with the Re: in front of it. If it is there, and then the message posts without it to a new thread that would be really strange.

I have been busy working on other parts of the Web, so I haven't done any stupid tweaks or anything.

    Anyone else having a problem?

      Re: Hey John Waggoner!!!

      John,

It does that, but didn't it used to put the "In Response To:" and the subject above the response form as well? I don't see that now until after I've posted, and review my response.

For the last few weeks, the number of "views" that I see listed has been incorrect (1,2, 6 or some really small number), but that was a minor matter. This is a real pain! Since earlier tonight I restarted my machine and cleaned it up otherwise, so we'll see what happens.

      Thanks,

Yep it happened to me too. I responded to a thread : Look for my ad in the Driveline..... and it posted it as a new message with the same subject.

              Patrick,

I think this a data processing flaw commonly known as a PEBKC.

If you are viewing the DB in "FRAMES" mode, you shouldn't be clicking on POST NEW RESPONSE in the upper frame. Assuming the post you wish to answer is visible in the lower frame, you should click on POST RESPONSE in the upper part of the LOWER FRAME. This will bring up the usual Your Name/E-Mail Address/Subject/Message screen and, assuming you decide to post your message, subordinate your response under the post which previously appeared in the lower frame. If I understand the code correctly - John W., if you're reading this and I am wrong, please set me right - POST NEW RESPONSE is only for, well, posting new messages, which automatically puts the messages at the highest level.

              Hope this helps.

                Re: Hey John Waggoner!!!

                Bill,

(If this works) I am doing it with the same computer using the same technique I have for the past 18 months that I've been on the Board. It is just now that I've had a problem. And, as you can see, sometimes the messages go to the correct place, and sometimes they do not.

Yes, I use frames. I am hitting Post New Response on the upper portion of the lower frame, as always.

I have tried restarting my computer several times. I have gone to the Microsoft site, and I need no upgrades. I haven't changed anything on the computer in the last few weeks, so why now? Norton System Works says there are no new errors on the computer.

Please forgive me if messages get placed incorrectly. I aplogize for any inconvenience this has caused.

                  Patrick,

I think anyone who has been tempted to toss a recalcitrant PC out the window knows how you feel. Still, I think you should avoid any command that says POST NEW MESSAGE unless you are starting a new thread. Are you SURE that POST NEW MESSAGE (and not POST MESSAGE) appears in your lower frame?

BTW, my comment about the age of your browser was more oriented towards the extensive discussion of your admittedly diminutive age farther down the Board. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I would prefer to be on your side of 35, rather than mine!

                  Just trying to help,

                  Bill Braun

                    John,

Sorry, it says "Post Response" and when I have used it, I got yesterday's errors.

Frustrated enough that I even got the term wrong.

If I look at the top of the page AS I WRITE THIS it says "Post Response" at the top in light tan letters. I thought it used to say WHAT it was you were responding to, and my page doesn't show that on the top or the bottom.

Thanks. I'll keep trying. For this note, I am using my other ISP, but same browser. We'll see what happens, but as it was even intermittent last night, who knows.

No problem with the age thing. I have just as much fun needling everyone else.

                      Re: Hey John Waggoner!!!

                      Patrick,

Apparently you and Zack are the only two that have had this problem. I really don't have a clue as to what may be the problem.

As I am posting this response at the top of this window is "Return to Index" under that is "Post Response" and under that is my name and e-mail address and the subject of the message that I am responding to.

At the top of the browser in the address line is http://209.15.96.123/config.cgi?form=28690 The 28690 is the number of the message that you previously posted. The message that this message will be tied to as a response.

If you have all of these things, and it is still posting as a new message I can't imagine what would be the cause. Let me know if you can whether all of these pointers to the message that you are responding to are there, and you still get sent into the new message category. When you do have the problem send me an e-mail offline with the number of the message that you posted, and the number of the message that it is supposed to be linked to. I will try to get it linked to the proper message from here.

As far as the message about "Post response to:" that used to be at the top of the message, it got lost in the last upgrade. I have every intention of putting it back, but it is on the back burner until I get a bunch of other priority items finished. Besides that it was only there for us OLD guys that can't remember from the time we click on post response the post form comes up who it was we were responding to. I know this wouldn't be a problem for you.

Keep me posted on your problem and anyone else that has it please chime in and let me know.

                      John
