I was getting ready for flight judging operations, testing my windshield washers on my 66 roadster and pumped quite a bit of washer fluid on to the windshield. A short time later I noticed that both the driver and passenger side foot boxes had water puddles on top of the floor mats. The windshield had been replaced and we used the black liquid sealant between the windshield glass and gasket, in addition to dum –dum under the stainless trim.
Dave,
First verify that the leak is from the glass sealing area. If you do not have dash or glove box in its simple (what's simple these days). Hope you get some simlpe ideas for a fix.
If you do remove the glove box and the area at windshield area appears to be dry then look towards the pillar-body hinge area. You will see a metal area with fiberglass pressed against it. The interface area may be wet, if so the area needs to be sealed. Have some pictures I can send if this is the problem.
This is the area that causes inside rain on your feet when raining.
Dave and Alan,
Encountered the same problem driving in rain last summer with my 66 roadster. One of the winter projects is chasing down the leak. Alan, you mentioned you had some photos of the pillar-body hinge area that is prone to leaking. Any chance you could send those to me? Also, what is the best sealer to use in those areas?
Thanks for your time and good luck with your leak Dave.
Tim
If the carpet is wet just below the bottom of the side air vent grilles, the drain holes in the bottom of the side plenums may be plugged; they're about two inches rearward of the #1 body mount.
