    C2-Headlight motor pivot bushing question

After 40 yrs my 66 headlight motors are still going strong but I've noticed one closes/opens a little slower than the other. I dug thru the archives and found a wonderful pictorial step by step process on how to clean these headlight motors. Thanks to those on this forum for the tips on removal.. The mirror was a great help with my hood off and a lttle tugging and wiggling managed to slide them off.

As per Judging guide TIM page #106, a white plastic bushing is used in the hole next to the stud..... upon first inspection I noticed an angled split in one of these white bushings and thought it needed to be replaced. I checked Corvette Central and notice that they sell black ones but they also have a slit in the bushing. So I pulled both of my white bushings off and both have what appears to be intentional angled slits on my factory bushings. I'm now assuming they are both OK and were made this way........if not does anyone know where to buy two new WHITE bushings like my originals..........cheers......

For all those who want to clean up their headlight motors, I used the instructions provided tonight and really enjoyed the process. Took me about 1.5 hrs for the first one and 1 hr for the second. I was just shocked that after 40 yrs of being in one place from St. Louis that they were so clean and well greased inside. The only wear was around the mechanical spindle with the teeth that were worn on one side only. Cleaned it all up, re-greased, turned the spindle 180 degrees and she looks great. Will install this week.......to see how she works.......

yeah, Rob has a real good thing going alright with those tech papers. All he did was go onto my site (which he even told me afterwards when I emailed him) and downloaded all the stuff I had posted up and than put it up on his own site.

i spent a long time digging up what I thought would be useful tech articles than took the time and effort to contact as many of the authors of those papers as I could such as John Hinkley, Lars Grimsrud, etc as I was able to to get permission post them on my site to publicly host them for other peoples benefit. Granted, there are a few articles up that I wasn't able to contact the writer of the article because I had no contact information but there are only a few like that. All the rest are up because I had express premission to do so.
Rob sets up his site, saw a mention of my site and the articles on another forum, and just grabbed them all and posted them up on his site.
yeah, he put a lot of work into THAT!

When I emailed him about it and explained I gotten permission to have the articles up he claimed that since he "found" the articles on the internet they were public domain and he was allowed. That may be techically correct but out of respect to the people that wrote the articles I would think asking them first would be appropiate even though I'm pretty positive they would give permission for him to put them up.

sorry for the rant, but I guess sometimes I think it's not always WHAT you do, it's HOW you do it that's just as important.

please don't misunderstand me. I have no problem with you needing and recieving the article, that's what they are for and god knbows that the reason that the autor of the article wrote it for. I'm thrilled that somebody knew where to get it and you were able to get the information to help you out!
It REALLY is all about sharing the information and helping people. god knows all the help, assistence, advice, suggestions, and information that i've recieved from here and CF, and CAC!
i'm new working on my own car and I'd NEVER be able to do any of the work without generous people and tech article like this.
That wasn't the my point at all so I apologize if I made my point poorly. And yes, I post my site address often when I see someone needs help on something that I have an article on and hosted on my site. i'm more than glad to do it. In fact, on CAC and CF my site address is part of my signiture in my posts and I know many people pull articles off the site on a regular basis and that's why I have them there.

I guess mainly my point is that I'm still a bit sore (and therefore my mention od a "rant" in my previous post) that I spent almost two years collecting, finding, asking for, etc lots of tech articles from lots of various sources. I even email the autors of many of the articles to see if they have current updates to them, etc and getting their specific permission to host their articles up on my site than Rob comes along, sees mention of my site on another forum as he is building his site and downloads them all and puts them up without all the work and effort I put into mine, including the respect I tried to give the authors of the articles by first asking their permission to host them.
I have on my harddrive probably twice or three times the number of articles that I have posted up on my site but for various reasons don't have them posted because I felt it wasn't appropiate, or I wasn't able to get permission to host them, or a number of other reasons. I wish I could put them on the site but until I can I won't.
I do understand completely Rob is just trying to help the hobby and I can appreciate that, I just don't like the way he went about it in this small area. Perhaps I'm just being trivial about it in which case I apologize to everyone, including Rob, for even mentioning it at all.

Pretty much all of the articles on my site you can now find on Robs, but since you asked, my website is in the link below. You are more than welcome to benefit from anything I have up on there. As I'm able I will post more tech articles up.

again, if my little rant is being trivial that I apologize to everyone - sometimes the littlest things just strike us in the wrong way and we can't always help how we feel about it.
