Here is the problem. My car never had the ignition box when I purchased it years ago. So, through the years I would pick them up from time to time. My Air clean base is original, carb is original, etc. So, I have this nice used ignition box on there and the tab is going in the right direction and it looks just like my assembly manual says it should but the teeth don't seem to be correctly contacting the air cleaner base.
My assembly manual show two different part numbers for the metal tab. 3927308 for the L79 and L36. This configuration is with the tab in the top two holes of the dist shield. The tab faces downward and the teeth face toward the air cleaner. But in my case, the teeth are below the base of the air cleaner.
Should this tab be bent in a "J" shape so the teeth should contact the underside of the air cleaner base?? Anyone have a picture of what it should look like. I have an NOS box and lid and it looks exactly the same. Hmmmm? I seem to recall that the little spring tab should curl up and make contact with the rear underside of the air cleaner base. I am sure somebody out there knows.
Thanks, Terry
