    c-1 hardtop

    Hi all,

I have come across a 60 hardtop. I own a 58. What would I need to do to convert this top into a 58. Are the tops the same shape, fit etc. I know the liner would have to change is there anything else?

    Regards and thanks as always

    Susan

        Re: c-1 hardtop

It will fit fine. There is however, a distinguishable difference in the trim on the two. The 58 top would have a Y shaped stainless steel trim piece at the lower corner of the rear window on each side where the 60 top would not. This would only be a concern if you were planning to have the car judged. Regards, Bernie Myers

          Susan - A 1958 and 1959 Hardtop Are Not...

...the same. One of the main differences are the right & left drip rails (or rain gutters). 1958, and I believe 1956 & 1957, the stainless steel gutter was a single, almost sharp, item. In 1959 that changed to a "rolled" or rounded piece of stainless. I'm doing a lousy job of describing it, but once you've seen them both, it is very easy to tell the difference. In any case, that is the main very notable change between 58 & 59, beside headliner, dates, etc...
          Best, Dennis

Susan - As a side note, would add that,...

...almost without exception, 59/60 hard tops are "cheap" when compared to 56/58 and 61/62. If possible, I would advise starting with the correct configuration for your model year car. "Doing" a hard top once is painfull enough - doing it twice is almost unbearable.
