C2 Valve Job

This may just be the ultimate while I was at it story.

I have the exhaust system off the car, so maybe now is a good time to have a valve job done and send the intake manifold out for reskinning. The car is a 65 365 hp with a 336:1 gear. I can use al the low end torque I can find, but it is great on the highway. Can anyone suggest a good shop in the Charlotte/Moorseville NC area for a three angle valve job? Also any idea what this should cost? Should I opt for screw in studs while I am in there?

I can't advise on a shop in your area. I'd ask around to local car clubs. You DEFINITELY wnat to get a competent and experienced shop for this work, especially if your heads are original.

As far as screw-in studs go, you need have no concern----ALL big blocks have screw-in studs from the factory. They have to inasmuch as all big blocks use guide plates.

If you want to get up to ten percent top end power, have the heads pocket ported along with the multiangle valvee job. Also pay for the best available valve guide restoring and sealing process.

The press in studs are okay for all OE cams, but if the engine has any history of pulling studs, convert to screw in.

Sounds like you're right in the heart of Nascar country. Some incredible engineering/machining talent there but, unfortunately, unavailable to the general public.

Most shops will "highly recommend" replacing the valve seats in the heads but unless you plan to put 100,000 miles on the engine in the next ten years, I would strongly resist this recommendation. It's not necessary. Other than that, I would follow Dukes advice, above.

Thanks for the responses I appreciate all the help I receive from the forum. I really would like to find a shop that someone can recomend from experience. It is the original motor & heads, I agree don't want to trash it due to a pulled stud.
