    Early 63 (Oct) BW T-10 - "Huber"

I've got a tranny on the bench from an early 63. On the very top of the main case along the ridge is stamped "Huber" veritically down the tranny. Any idea what that was all about?

    Thanks

Joe, I don't know if there is any connection and probably not, Crysler Corp. had a Huber Foundry on Huber Street in Detroit.

        Joe-----

This looks like a number which was rather crudely stamped on the case using individual die stamps. I seriously doubt that it was done at the B-W factory in Muncie, IN where these transmissions were manufactured or at the St. Louis assembly plant. I expect that it was added "along the way" by someone who rebuilt the transmission or, perhaps, by an owner that wanted to ID his transmission.

The thing that I find really curious, though, is the ground surface on which the stamping was done. I don't recall seeing this sort of thing done on T-10 aluminum cases. Of course, it could have been done by "Huber". However, while the stamping doesn't look "factory", the ground surface does look like it might have been done at the factory. If "Huber" did it to accomodate his stamping, I don't know why he would have extended the grinding for such a length.

          Joe,
I have a few early T-10s with that same ground down top seam. Maybe one of the case molds started leaking at that parting line and created a ridge that needed to be eliminated.?

Thanks for the input. Just for kicks, below is a pic of the vin stamp. Looks a little funky to me but I'm not up on my tranny stampings.

Here's a stretch - there was/is a gentleman named Eddie Hammer-Huber who was very active in the NCRS. His name came to mind because his area was '63's. I am sure there are many here who will know him.

I've seen many with the same rough grinding. Not sure why some have it and some don't but I suspect your right about one of the molds having a problem.
