Re: Thanks Bill--Please critique
Okay all, please lend your thoughts/comments/observations/etc. I think I can see that the surface has been milled at a machine shop. The one photo shows a "shadow" or what looks like a double stamp, but that may have been caused by the camera flash, as this is not visible when looking at the pad with a magnifing glass. There is one more photo with a ruler that may help determine sizing. Thanks, G.- Top

Re: Photos up--- please critique NM
Kevin, this is the block in my '65 FI cp. The pad was painted at one time and I used paint stripper followed by fine steel wool to remove most of the paint. The pad appears to have been surfaced (probably during a rebuild---my information from the previous owner of 22 years is that the rebuild was performed before he purchased the car?). All engine, body, vin, trans, rear end, etc. casting and stamped numbers/codes fit very well together on this car. I am looking for opinions concerning the pad stampings---look correct?---something amiss?---too deep/to wide/too straight/not straight enough/correct vertical and horizonal sizing/spacing? etc., etc. etc.. I have begun stripping the car for a repaint, and am considering going ahead with a body off, but thought I'd get some input on this pad before I purchase a fuel injection unit (car has no FI unit, has added side pipes, has added rear sway bar, has a '67 BB hood-----everything else, so far, looks original). I'm not sure what "Looking to buy, your's but never posted it before." means? G.- Top

Re: Thanks Bill--Please critique
The upset material around a stamped character will show up as a shadow under a flash and may look like a double stamp. Especially if the photo is taken from an angle and not straight on. With deeper stamping the shadow is more pronounced.- Top

Re: Photos up--- please critique NM
George, it looks an awful lot like there is an upset around many of the characters which is common in medium to hard strikes. If this block has been decked then it was restamped after the decking. The machining operation would have removed all of the upset material from around all of the characters.- Top
