The 69 I bought doesn't have green numbers on the instrument cluster. Does the green fade over time or does this mean the cluster faces were replaced or incorrectly restored?

Re: 68-71 Green Instrument Numbers
Hi Bob:
I have seen this so many times and don't believe the numbers are in a position that they all could fade and appear similar, it would be very difficult for the upper portion of the main cluster to receive sufficient sun to cause the amount of fading that would make them appear white. I think many were replaced with later gauges as the original green ones were not available, I've had three 68 & 69s that had white faces and a bit of detective work indicated they had either been apart or changed out.

Re: 68-71 Green Instrument Numbers
Bob------
First, are you sure that it really doesn't have the "green" numerals? Bear in mind that the "green" is really a very faint green. Also, ALL of the dash gauges including the speedometer, tachometer, radio frequency bar/lens, and heater/AC control lens have the green tinted characters. So, if yours are ALL the same, it means that either ALL OF THIS was changed, or you really do have the green tinted instruments.
By the way, if only SOME of the above-referenced items were changed(i.e. you have both green and white character dash instruments), the difference will be quite noticeable and prominent.
If ALL of the instruments were changed, that would worry me.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 68-71 Green Instrument Numbers
Bob,
I agree with Joe. For example, my Dad's car is actually a mixture of a few cars. As most of it is 72, I bought a 72 clock (white) because the gauge numerals looked white. When I installed the clock, the difference was obvious immediately, that I actually had 71 style gauges (most of the interior came from a 71).
I installed a "green" 71 clock today, and it looks perfect.
