    T-10 trans rebuild manual

I have a 1961 t-10 transmission and I want to rebuild it my self. Where can i find a rebuild manual and are there any pitfalls.

Both the ST-10 "corvette servicing guide" and the '63 service manual, as well as any Chevroletv pass car shop manual from the 58-62 era, or motors manual of the era. Assuminf you have a basic undeerstanding of 4-speed trans rebuilds in general, T-10 is not too difficult. Just watch the location of the select-fit snapring vs the "fixed size" snapring (explained in service manuals)

As Bill suggests the Chevrolet Service Manual is your best technical resource for this overhaul procedure. However, if you still feel a lack of confidence after reviewing it, there is one other thing that you could do. If you have the opportunity to attend the Bloomington Gold Restoration Workshops this year, you might want to try to see if you can enroll in Ed Hartnett's Muncie/T-10 Rebuild Workshop. This is a 5 hour, hands-on course in which you will disassemble and reassemble a T-10 or Muncie 4 speed trans.

I enjoyed this class so much that I've taken it 4 times; twice when Bruce Shaw was the instructor and twice since Ed took over for Bruce. Not this year, though; enough is enough.

Ed is also an excellent source of parts for a 4-speed rebuild.

Jeff, Getting a manual is a must and the disassembly and assembly is "pretty" straightforward. HOWEVER, T10s, unlike Muncies, are very finicky. Is the trans. in need of a rebuild or do you just want to rebuild it? If the trans. shifts well and does not make any noise [bearings] leave it alone. A once good trans. can become a source of headaches if taken apart and rebuilt. From experience, I know and Muncies are a breeze compared to T10s. One of my T10s was taken out 3 times before I was able to stop the "popping out of second gear problem. Example - First it was complete syncro assy., then at the advice of someone who should know a new second gear was installed, finally after talking with many experts I happened upon a fellow here in Ct. and he was able to tell me what to do and it now is fine.

Rob: If you don't mind me asking, what did you do to stop your popping out of second gear problem. I'd like to stop mine from doing it and was going to go the syncro and gear route.

            Thanks, Lee
