c-1 Steering Box

I just rebuilt the steering box in my '58. After installing and completing the adjustment to the worm bearing and lash adjustment screw I noticed I had play at the extremes of the steering run-out.I can grab the pitman arm and get some play.The play is only at the extremes, no play when I back off one turn from the extremes or at the high point. Is this movement normal ?

Yes... And if you try to eliminate that play...

...the steering will bind when going over center. I have determined it is just the nature of the (design) beast. However, I've been wrong before... Dennis

Thanks Dennis. I tried but could not eliminate. On your advice I will leave as is and not worry about the play.

If you are at extreme steering angle at any speed, the play will probably be the worst of your concerns. At slow speed it should cause no problem.
