    C2 door hinge bushing?

63 convertible. The door hinges have some play in them; by play I mean that if you hold the hinge and try to move it vertically, it will give a little bit. I thought there might be a worn bushing, there doesn't appear to be a bushing in the hinge pin. Pin wear prehaps? Is this a common problem or am I over analyzing?

There should be bronze bushings there as well as the steel hinge pin. The bushings do wear and the pins also sometimes wear. Both the bushings and the pins are available in reproduction.

      Steve,

I don't have a63, I have a 65 and it has bushings. I am pretty sure your 63 will have them too. Open the door just slightly and try to pick the back end of the door up. If the door moves up and down then the bushings and pins are probably worn.

The 63 has pins and bushing. I replaced mine last year. You have to remove the the hinges to replace the bushings. It is difficult to remove the hinges without damaging the paint around them. The actual replacement is easy to do. The pins and bushings are still available at GM dealers.
The other problem on these doors has to do with the way the fiberglass is fastened to the metal frame on the door. It is held in place with rivits and over time the rivits do loosen up and may need to be replaced.
Obviously the drivers side gets more use than the passengers side, so more wear.
