Anyone know about different lengths of deck lid trim for C1's? My original trim for my '58 had a number of dents so I purchased a beautiful set, but when I went to install, it was about 1/4" too long. Did the trim lengthen or change at all during those years. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Re: C1 deck lid trim
Steve,
I am sure that the trim for the '61-62 were longer as the deck lid changed slightly due to the ridge down the middle. Other years before '58 may have been different too. My guess is that '58-'60 interchange. Perhaps some of the real experts can chime in too.
Sorry that they don't match. I've gone from excited to disappointed too many times on similar things.- Top

Re: C1 deck lid trim
Thanks Mike, it makes sense that the trim was too nice to use. I had no way to determine length when I bought it and frankly didn't think about the fact that there was a difference in years. Guess I'll just have to sell it! Thanks for your time and info.- Top

Re: C1 deck lid trim
53,54 and 55 deck lid are longer and so is the dash bar, why? Because the Corvette is wider then a 56 to 60, the dash bar from a 53,54 or 55 wont fit a 56 or 57,and 61 or 62 deck lid S/S I think is even shorter, others may know.
Like the door post there was three different designs which many don't know ether and all had the same parts number!! dont you just love it??- Top

Re: C1 deck lid trim
Steve--
Don't sell them yet. Are you absolutely sure that they are too long? Maybe I'm mistaken, but I've been under the impression for the last 32 years that 56-62 were the same. Yes, the deck lid profile was changed from 56-60 and 61-62, but I'm not sure the trim was changed.
How have you tried to mount them? How high do they sit on the deck lid (relative to the opening behind the seats)?
Obviously, the easiest way to begin to define this is to check the appropriate AIMs and/or parts books--I have them at home, but not here at the office. The fit on those trim pieces varies--have you tried to adjust them up/down, etc? Have you tried moving the retainers around a bit on the backside of the trim pieces? When I get home, I'll check my resources, but unless my memory is getting foggy, those interchange. 53-55 do not interchange, by the way, but they are quite different than the later ones.- Top

Re: C1 deck lid trim john
Thanks I knew I thought 61-62 were different.
That's why some one should write an Article for the restorer about them and the differences in door posts which are three designs for the C1. From 56 to 62. No! Not me any more, you have all the numbers on parts, so many people buy the wrong parts and seller don't know ether. It' true for so many parts, I a tempt to mention this here and add some pic. Now and then but few C1 owners use this forum and you have a recognized name that people listen to.- Top

Re: C1 deck lid trim-THANKS
Thanks all-I've tried to install them and they would fit fairly well at one end and then be out too far or come down too low on the other. What I have fits perfect and when I put them bottom to bottom, there is a distinct difference in length and, hence, shape. I'll hold on to them for awhile and wait unless someone here reading this is interested in them-email me.- Top
