C2 Backup switch shield

I am very curious to find out if side exhaust cars did not come with a shield on the backup switch? I had recently installed a new switch as mine was missing and assumed that it was a debris shield not a heat shield.

I recently had my 66 427/425 coupe judged at a local chapter meet. This created grounds for them to believe that my car was not a true side exhaust car. I was able to prove my car as being original side exhaust car but am wondering if the shield should be removed?

That is going to be a new one on me. I have never heard of the back-up light switch shield - bracket not to be present for any optional reason. I had always believed the "shield" was an integral part of the bracket used to mount the switch to the transmission. Maybe it's not. I have a 67 with factory original side exhaust, the "shield" is present, and from the best I can tell it's the original.

Also, according to the 66 JM for side exhaust, the only thing that comes close is the absence of ground straps and the center exhaust pipe hanger at the transmission. TBarr #24014

As far as I know, the shield was installed irrespective of whether or not the car was otherwise equipped with N-14 side exhaust.
