    C2 Starter Dating

    I have a 66 coupe sn# 20080.
I got a starter with car that the previous owner said was the original. The starter is dated 6 D 20.

My trim tag says the body is AO Smith and has the date I15, (April 15, 1966).

Engine block cast date: C316 (March 31,1966)

Engine assembly date from pad: FO412HP (April 12, 1966)

The birthday calendar from the Wisconsin NCRS chapter approximates the date for my car is April 25, 1966 for my car.

Is this a correctly dated starter for my car, or should the date of the starter preceed the engine assembly date?

    Thanks,
    Frank

the body is AO Smith and my trim tag date is I15, April 15?

Starters were assembled to the engine at St Louis, so the date is unrelated to the engine. It should precede the car build date but you appear to have that covered.

      Frank:

I'm glad to see someone else raise this question..... My '64 convertible with the 327/300 has a stamp pad assembly date of May 11, '64. The starter, which is the original on the car, is dated 4E11 (May 11, '64)! How could the starter be manufactured the same day the engine is assembled since the starter was shipped in from Delco Remy...? A real mystery....

        Gary,
From Bills response to my post and others who responded to me by email. 66 starters were installed at the St Louis factory after the engine was assembled. My engine was assembled on 12 April, the body on 15 April and the birthaday calculator says the car was built on or around 25 April. My starter is dated 20 April, 5 days before the car was assembled. As far as I can tell this date works. I am sure that your cars birthday is after the assembly date of the engine and that in 64, starters were installed at St Louis. Your date should be just fine.
        Thanks for the response.

All starters on all engines were always installed at the car assembly plants.
