    Re: NOS 3851673

Didn't the 63 have a deep jack well and a recessed area under seats which may have required the pipes to be different. Know they had a dirrerent hanger at transmission. Just an idea to follow. What a tangle web we ..

      Reproduction 3851673

Here's a reproduction of the 3851673 shield. Note the difference in the bend near the left end. The original is nearly straight. I believe the reproduction is incorrect and is actually just a shortened version of the 63 only shield. The 673, new for 1964-67, was a completely new stamping. The same is true for the right side shield.

        Re: Reproduction 3851673

        Michael, Alan,

Checked the AIM again, the numbers are as I posted, and are on page UPC 8 A2, my copy of the AIM has updates through 3-31-65. There are only one set of part numbers and no reference to 2 inch versus 2.5 inch pipes.

          Re: Reproduction 3851673

          George,

The numbers in the engine group in the assembly section are those used on the base engine with 2.0" exhaust system. However, if you look in the option section, L76 etc., the list of "items used in place of" base components will show the part numbers for the 2.5" shields. I think it's usually the first or second page of that section. Everything listed in the first half of the AIM's would be the components used to build "just a Corverre" with zero options.

I don't have a 65 AIM handy but I do have a 66. I'll look up the numbers. Pretty sure they would be the same as 65.

            Michael,

That repro looks exactly like my 67 original for the left one. And the same part number. See the picture in the post below. Notice that there is no neck down in either.

It's the right side one, that I wonder about. Part no. 38164180.

                Jerry,

I thought we were making a little progress on this but now I'm confused again. (happens often) I'll look into this. The only thing I know for sure, so far, is the trail on all of the part numbers and their changes.

The original GM prints would certainly help.

Take a look at this post, Geoffrey Coenen has the GM prints:

Well, looks as if the set I have on my 63 is incorrect. I need a 2 inch set, any recommendations as to who makes the best repro copy?

                    Thank

                    Harry

                      Michael,
You are right, I guess I was brain dead or just sleep walking through the AIM. The L76 section of my AIM specifies RH shield as 3864180 and LH shield as 3851673. Page is UPC L76 Page 2. The issue date is 6/64, and there are no revisions.
