I wanted to get a few people's opinions about Romeo Engineering and the quality of their carpets for a 1964 Roadster. They advertise in the Driveline as being 100% correct for 1963 and 1964 Corvettes. I placed an order with them in early December of '05 and still have not gotten my order even made... They had promised me 6 weeks and they would be made and shipped. It has been over 3 months and they won't even return a call to tell me when they can get them made. Are these people that good that you have to wait 3 to 6 months to get their stuff? They also insist that the I need the jute under my foam-backed carpets. I removed the original carpets from this low-miles original and there was only a foam backing and no jute padding on the floor. Has anyone else had this kind of problem getting correct carpets for a mid-year? Thanks for any help/advise, Rick

Re: '64 Carpets & Romeo Engineering
What you stated above is exactly what was discussed here, maybe a year ago. Even down to "they won't even pick up the phone". I'll pass on them, PT- Top

Re: '64 Carpets & Romeo Engineering
I ordered some 67 carpet from AK at Orlando. Got my friend Jer's discount, no shipping charges, no sales tax. I had it in a week. Romeo's business skills seem to be about as good as Goat Hill's.

Re: '64 Carpets & Romeo Engineering
They claim to have the correct molded heelpad for 63/64, however their site's picture is not clear enough to verify. Call and after a while it was consluded that the catalog had a picture that would show details - will send.
Second call- oh yes I remember the call will send catalog.
That was 3 months ago. Will try AK for a picture first or go to a show where AK is going to be attending and verify before purchase.
Also taked to a few people in my area, same story - no service from Romeo.- Top

Re: '64 Carpets & Romeo Engineering
Rick,
I was going the same route when I replaced the carpets in my '64 roadster two years ago. Romeo didn't send me any info regarding their carpet sets as they said they would and wouldn't confirm that the heel pad was correct. I bought from Al Knoch and couldn't be happier with the results.
Alan, I'll send you a picture of the heel pad in my '64.
Best Regards,

Re: '64 Carpets & Romeo Engineering
The service from this company is about the worst I have ever seen. I did purchase the carpet for my '69 from them several years ago because they advertized that they had the only correct heal pad on the market. Their quality and fit was fantastic but it took a year to get the carpet. Was it worth the wait and 30 odd phone calls? Who knows.

Re: '64 Carpets & Romeo Engineering
I won an eBay auction last year for some 63 floor mats. I sent 3 emails, and left one phone message to find out where to send the $$. No answer. 60 days later the creep leaves me a negative feedback for not paying. They are definitely the worst customer service I have ever seen at any company.- Top

Re: '64 Carpets
While were on the subject of 64 carpets, I am the original owner of a 64 coupe and although I don't have the original FRONT carpets, the rear carpets are still intact and in the car. When I removed the front carpets, I don't recall ANY foam backing and the existing original rear carpets have none also. So I have to question the notion that 64 carpets have/had foam backing. Further, when I had the front carpets replicated, the new carpets have no foam backing. My car is a May 1 built car.- Top

Re: '64 Carpet Foam Backing
Have March 23, 1964 car with original rear carpets. They have light gray foam backing, however its slowly flacking away (dry). Did 63 have the foam and then changed in 64 sometime?? (do not know this answer)
My 64 has many 63 configured parts. Must remember that the assembly lined used what ever they had at end of 63 and start of 64. If a box of 63 parts were found during the 64 year I would guess it was used. Sometimes I suspect that we at NCRS assume that every thing on the Assembly went by the numbers - I don't think so!
Some of the old members who worked on the line may have some good stories which are just as important as what part is correct. Hay maybe a good book!- Top

Re: '64 Carpets & Romeo Engineering
I had an unpleasant experience with Romeo Engineering last year. I ordered a dash pad for my 62 mid February and didn't get it until mid May. It was damaged and I had to return it on my expense. I received the replacement some time in July. I made numerous calls to them during the time and they rarely answered the telephone. They never once called me back when the promised. The dash pad I received was fine but it too way too long. Go with Al Knoch.- Top

Re: '64 Carpets & Romeo Engineering
I have a 2nd home in Northern Mich. less than 15 miles from them..
I called one day and told them I needed carpeting for my '61 and would like to stop by to see their operation. Was told that they didn't have a showroom and there really wasn't anything to see, other than a warehouse and a few people working. He suggested that he had to go into Alpena, Mi. and that we could meet at a four corners gas station, and that I was to bring cash.
Needless to say I didn't, But did order from Al Knoch....
