    57 Radiator

I'm looking for member input regarding a new radiator for my 57. It still has the original and the temp slowly creeps up until it's overheating so I believe there is some clogging in the bottom of the core.
Before I spend the money for a fix I'd like to hear about the DeWitt aluminum or a copper brass repo. Also is it worth recoring the original? Would it give reasonable cooling ? Any input appreciated. Rich # 2276

remove radiator and take it to a radiator shop. it may just need cleaned, especially if you live in the anit-freeze belt. mike

        Rich:
I had a '57 radiator that had a corroded core. I took it to a radiator shop and they just replaced the core and put the bottom and top from my original back on. Cost was less than a new radiator.

I installed a DeWitts in my 57 last spring. The engine has never run cooler, and it looks and fits great. He was extremely nice to deal with. I would highly recommend their replacement if you want a worry free repair.

            Rich,

I recored my original 57 brass radiator and it helped but did not cure my heating problem. I did everything everyone suggested and still had an overheat problem.

I bought a DeWitts reproduction aluminum radiator. Lay it side by side with the original and it is VERY close. Installed it is virtually undetectable, and it cured the heating problems. Driving hard or easy, 100 degree plus and it doesn't overheat.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. It's time to make a decision and I may try to have my original cleaned, rodded, or recored if I can find a decent radiator shop locally. We had a really good one for years but Dad retired and his son only operated it for two years and shut it down. If I cannot find one I'll most likely go with the DeWitts aluminum repo. Thanks again Rich
