    C2 63 Bellhousing Paint

Understand that NCRS judging expects a certain amount of block paint overspray on the bellhousing.
Reason I'm asking - Just saw an assembly line photo of 63FI motor and trans ready to install and clearly there is not a drop of paint on the bellhousing.
Is this one of those areas that may have been done much latter in the C2 assembly due to production change?? If so what year is one to expect to find the over spray.
    Just for Information
    Thanks Alan

    Re: C2 63 Bellhousing Paint

    Alan -

May have been a Pilot or engineering-supplied engine assembly in the photo; all bellhousings were on the engine when it was painted, and no attempt was made to mask them.

I will ask for info on pictures, some 150 of these. Do you known of a way to tell if they are engineering or assembly line photo's? These may have been done for some marketing. The engine is a FI unit that must be during production since the two large boss on front are not there.
If you would like any I can send if you sent me an email at akdselectman @ hotmail.com
      Thanks Alan

Thought I had read somewhere that they had about 13 seconds to paint the engines as they came down the assembly line. Maybe John Hinckley can comment. If true, you can see why there were paint runs in the valve covers and some areas had more coverage than others.

That's correct - they came through the Flint Engine paint booth at 280-300 per hour; certainly wasn't a "concours" paint operation.
