Re: California YOM License Plate Update
Duke,
I think if the plate was ever original to the car it can be reissued. The YOM is for cars to use any existing plate of the year. If you have CA registration with your VIN and that plate you've hit a home run. Really the Holy Grail is any old paper work that has the plate number and car information on it. I have one piece of paper that has my plate number on it. I have a plan if this bill passes.

Re: California YOM License Plate Update
I had the blue and yellow plates on my 67 Ca. Corvette .And was looking to find the black and yellow plates when my Daughter took them off and using grease to cover the yellow numbers painted the blue area black using a raddle can . Unless you know, they look original and only cost $2.95 for a can of black paint. I have never been asked about that when I was stopped.- Top

Re: California YOM License Plate Update
When I went to the DMV to reregister the Cosworth Vega in my living trust I brought the original plate that was issued when I bought it new from Mission Chevrolet in San Gabriel in 1976 along with all the paperwork showing that I was the original owner and that the plate was originally issued to the car when I bought it.
No deal. Maybe they were wrong, but I'm happy with historical vehicle plates. If the day ever comes that I can install the original issued plate, I will have that option, too.
Since I bought my '63 Corvette new in Washington state I don't have any burning desire to put year of manufacture plates on it unless I could put the original Washington plates back on, which I don't think California will buy, and I don't plan to take up residence in Washington again until what's left of me will fit in a ten pound box that UPS will ship up to Seattle for interment in the Fort Lawton Army cemetery.

Re: California YOM License Plate Update
Gov Davis vetoed 2 previous attempts to add the "black" plates to the YOM category, his reasoning was "public safety" due to visibility for law enforcement (plates not reflectorized). Of related interest, the alpha/numeric pattern on the 56/62 "yellow" plates was repeated on the 63/7? "black" plates. If you want the "yellow" plates check with the CA DMV to make sure they are clear.- Top
