    Rochester rebuild

How long would it take to completely disassemble, completely clean, then re-asseble four barrel carb? If one who was doing this was a pro at it, with no cosmetics involved?

    Re: Rochester rebuild

Geez, I've taken my Q-Jet completely apart and back together in a MacDonalds parking lot in like 30-45 minutes.

If you want to rebuild it and address the leaky plugs with epoxy etc, obviously a little longer..at least to let the epoxy dry

      Re: Rochester rebuild

      Scott,
So if there is nothing major to repair, then a day is more than enough. The reason I am asking is I made the mistake of sending mine out to be repaired and its been well over five weeks now. He won't return my phone calls and when I do get him on the phone, its "I'll have it shipped out next week." Well, next week has come and gone a few times. He was in a write up in a major vette magizine that highly recomended him. I wish next time, they just send it in and see how long it takes them to get it back before they rave about his service and work. But if they did that, they would probably have to pay for his work.

I am just frustrated. If he would have been up front and told me it would be a couple of months then I would have looked elsewere or had some time frame to wait. I figured that to do it right would be two days, and that was only a few hours each day. So I alloted three weeks including shipping time.

I have read on this site of people waiting half a year to get there stuff back. They are alot more patience that I am.

        Re: Rochester rebuild

I hate it when they do that! At least be up front and honest so you can plan for the time. Chas, you can always simply just ask for it to be returned without the rebuild since you feel that he hasn't been up front with you. You didn't mention if the fellow said what was wrong with your carb, does it need some kind of machining or need new butterfly shaft bushings installed or something that would require his expertise for your rebuild. Perhaps overbooked but I know I would appreciate someone being upfront.

          carb magicians

i think a lot of these carb magicians do batch rebuilding. they do not do the dichromate and replating themselves and they wait till they have a bunch of parts to send to the plater. i can see a wait if you do not have a carb and want them to find you one with the correct date or need hard to find parts etc. i have redone 100s of carbs in the last 40 years, retired now,and even building modified racing carbs does not take more than 4/6 hours labor. waiting for the epoxy to harden was the hold up on any carb.

            Re: carb magicians

I sent him the correct dated / number carb. It was the fact that the first time I called him and reached him, after four days of calling, eighteen days after he had it, is that all he had done was taken it out of the box and had it sitting on a shelf, which he had to call me back after he serched for it. He said he would get to it. About ten days later I called him again, after three days of calling, he said he would ship it out the next week. Well, this is the end of that week. And, of course, he has not returned any of my calls. Why he has an answering machine is beyond me. I would hate to think he is so cheap that he can't afford a long distant call. No, there was nothing major wrong with it, and if he has not started I will asked for its return. I don;t think this is a side business which really frustrates me.
            Venting again!!

              Re: carb magicians

I agree that the time frame is B.S. as well as the customer service. I too would be impatient. There is no reason that it should require so many calls to get an answer. Why don't you post who this is so the rest of us don't have to put up with this kind of crap? I've found that alot of "specialists" get an arrogant attitude because they think they are the only game in town. I refuse to give these people any business.

we should have a place where one can tell off on the people that do not are give bad service. dont know how one would conduct it but maybe a rateing system of some sort.

Re: he wants to get his carb back

some boards have a special place to do this BUT the NCRS sells ads in it publications and they may not go for it. best bet is to post you problems and if anyone wants to know who you are posting about they can e mail you.

I guess, if I was him, I wouldn't send it back--then you wouldn't post who you're having trouble with.

Would that be grounds to seek legal remedy?

Since we are talking about IRVs, IDIOT REPAIR VENDORS. My IRV is Mr.Wonderbarman. He even joined NCRS and runs ads in the driveline.
His response after keeping my radio for 4 weeks and not even starting on it
when I asked for it back and my payment (check cashed), was to cuss me out,
told me it was his radio now and eventually after several e-mails and calls
2 months later, that if I wanted my radio back it was a extra $125.
Which I paid and the radio plays poorly.
This whole discussion has been witnessed by another NCRS memeber along with
his rude e-mails.....By the way don't be fooled by his slick web-site....
I to would like to see this IRV Mr.WONDERBARMAN, kicked out of the
                            driveline....Big John

                              All,

I could start a vendor recommendation chart on the C1 - C3 registries if people would feel this could benifit?

I could let you recommend (or advise against) a vendor and then other visitors can vote (positive or negative) and leave comments why they feel the vendor is an addition to the hobby (or not). I might open a box of Pandora here but it would be benefical to all of us I guess (and not living in the States would make it hard for the vendors with a negative ranking to press charges against me I guess ;-)

                              greetings,
                              Rob.
