    1963 Fuel Sending Unit

I just purchased a after market (foreign off shore) fuel sending unit from one of the Corvette part houses. The electrical connection would not work and I would have to BUBBA the restored wire harness to get it to work. I intended to use this unit until I could find a correct unit or a unit that could be restored. I did not want to spend $150.00 plus on an after market unit.

Where would be the best place to purchase a sending unit that would be correct for the 63 that would not require me to alter the wire connections? (It may not be correct to post a vendors name so you can email me at: ray63@rochester.rr.com

Were there different wire harness connectors for the C-2 units?

What is the type of wire and rubber tube (covers the flat conductor)that was used on the original units and could be submersed in the fuel tank. Can we still buy these items?

    Thanks for any help!

    Re: 1963 Fuel Sending Unit

    Ray------

The 63-67 fuel sending unit is still available from GM. As far as I know, it's identical to the original and will install without the requirement for other modifications. No components of these fuel sending units were ever available from GM with the exception of the strainer. The strainer is supplied with new GM units. The GM piece is costly carrying a GM list price of $353.94, but you should be able to buy one for about $200. The part number is GM #6428065.

The original part number for the 1963 unit was GM #5642797. However, I believe that the 6428065 unit, which has been the SERVICE sender since October, 1968, will work perfectly and is virtually indiscernable from the original. In any event, I don't know of any way to restore or repair these senders.
