C3 blower motor box vs AC

    Hello,

I've a question about the C3 AC system. The blowermotorbox in my 79 suffered some serious damage and needs replacement. Since the rest of the AC system is already not there anymore and I found a blower of a non AC car I was thinking in using this blower. Is this possible. Would I still be able to get enough cooling inside the car ?
I noticed that the non AC cars have extra vents in the firewall...

    Thanks

    Yves

There were two differences between the non-AC and AC version of the heater blower motor:

    (1) The AC version was 'vented' at the motor shroud to an elbow to connect to the heater plenum and feedback cold air to cool the motor to increase longevity.

    (2) The AC version was designed for 4-speed vs. 3-speed operation to move more air through the system in its highest speed mode.

Correct original fans aren't very expensive and are readily available in rebuilt form from most auto parts stores. Why not get the real deal?

It's not the fan that is not working. The box itself is seriously damaged.

The cutout in the firewall is different for AC and non-AC cars. I don't think you can get a non-AC blower box to line up with the interior box. I think Doc Rebuild makes a repair kit.
