... gaskets ? Link below is a completed eBay auction for a set that also included 2 sets of intake (square & round port); manifold ends; steel head gaskets, etc.
Price seemed a little steep and I was wondering if it was the silver cork valve cover gaskets that helped to boost the selling price.
Re: Any factory C2/C3 BB use silver cork valve cov
the silver was a heat setting adhesive that was to stop leaks BUT also made it very hard to get the covers off. my new 65 396 came with these gaskets and i changed plenty as those 65 396 broke a lot of valve springs.i am not sure if my 66 427 came with them.

I think that all, or at least most, big blocks were originally supplied with these silver-coated, cork valve cover gaskets. These were GM #3860315 and they were the only valve cover gaskets used for 1965-74+ big block PRODUCTION and SERVICE.
I believe that aftermarket valve cover gaskets can be found with this same silver coated cork configuration. Reproduction gaskets are available, too (they may be the aftermarket gaskets sold as "reproduction"). If one has a set of plain cork gaskets and the silver coating is important, just paint them with aluminum paint. No one will know the difference.
If someone paid big $$$$ to get these gaskets, they're nuts.
