Is it possible to replace the tachometer face without removing the entire instrument cluster from the dash? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 1960 Tach. Face
Nick, The Service Guide states "remove the instrument panel" to repair the tach. But it also states the same thing for the fuel and temp gauges which I have removed easily without removing the panel. I have never tried to remove the tach. from the back but the service guide does say to remove the speedometer even after the panel is out. Doesn't sound good for doing it from the back under the dash. But I would still give it a try!- Top

Re: 1960 Tach. Face
WOW! I finally get to answer a question instead of asking one. My 60 instrument cluster is currently out of my car (everything is currently out of my car!). I went out to the garage and remove the two nuts previously mentioned and the tach still won't budge. The speedometer covers most of the top half of the tach and is flush again it. The tach needs to slide straight back almost an inch to clear the studs that the nuts go onto and to slide out of a "cup" in the molded cluster housing. I can see any way I could remove the tach without removing the speedometer, even on the bench. Hope this helps (even though I know it's not what you wanted to hear), good luck! // Mike- Top
