    1962 Propeller Shaft

Can anyone tell me if there is a difference in the propeller shaft length between a 3-speed, 4-speed, and Powerglide application propeller shaft? If so, can anyone provide the correct measurements from outside of universal joint fitting to outside of universal joint fitting (total propeller shaft length) for these three applications?

I think the Yoke on all applications is the long Yoke that measures approximately 4 7/8" length, but if I am wrong on this maybe someone can correct it.

According to my 1967 Chevrolet parts book, part number 3712381, is the propeller shaft for all 55-62 Corvette's with 8 cyl. The length is 34 and 35/64 inches long. Hopefully Joe will reply to your post and confirm this.

        Re: 1962 Propeller Shaft

My P&A books for 1962 & 1963 also say the measurement is 34 35/64", but a propeller shaft I bought as correct for my 1962 years ago at Bloomington Gold measures 35 29/32" tip of universal joint housing to tip of universal joint housing (as per parts book diagram TYPE F), and 34 19/32" CenterLine to CenterLine of universal joints. This propeller shaft came with the long 4 7/8" Yoke which is cast "SPICER U.S.A." The total length of this propeller shaft and Yoke assembly measures 41 7/16".

Is something amiss here? Or did I get "Shafted"?

          John------

All I can tell you is that GM drive shafts often do not conform to the length specification for them shown in the P&A Catalogs. I do not know why.
