    Solenoid problem?

    Hi all,

I am having a problem of which I am not sure is the solenoid. When I hit the starter, the gear from the starter moves up against the edge of the teeth of the flywheel and basically just sits against it. If I keep the key on, sometimes the gear will slide on into the flywheel teeth at which time it spins flywheel spins nicely. On occasion, the gear slides in the first try, but not often.

Is the solenoid too weak to push the gears on in when there is not perfect correspondence between gear and teeth or what?

    Thanks,

    Bob

    Bob------

I would say that the problem is with the solenoid or starter drive. Both are easily replaced and are not real expensive. I assume, though, that you know that your battery and battery connections to the starter are good.

        Roy,

-------Bad armatures usually work OK cold but not so good once warm until they get really bad, in my experience. Its a progressive thing........Bill S
