C3 (72) Delema on center console wood grain

    Hi All,
I have a delema on getting a stick on contact paper wood grain or the one that GM put out that is a little thicker to put on my center console 4 speed, With A/C or keep on trying to hunt down an origanal. Any suggestions would be helpfull. This is for judging.
    Thank You,
    Rob

I think that the contact paper will be very discernable as a substitute for the original insert.

Rob, The contact paper will come off with the heat. Even the slightest heat will start loosening it and making it wrinkle leaving behind the adhesive. I recommend the real thing. If it is pricey, go to Ebay.

        Joe,
Would this leave out the one that GM put out? I think it has a metal backing?

I doubt that you will be able to find any original wood-grained pieces from GM. Service replacement for the real wood on consoles and doors was contact-style peel-and-stick vinyl in the mid 1980s. It is affixed to metal backing. I bought some for my car and discovered the difference. Maybe Joe can tell us when it changed.

Joe is also correct in that judges can quickly tell and will deduct for the vinyl.
