Source for low scale torque wrench?

I want to adjust the steering box on my '81 according to a pretty popular article that circulates on the Vette sites, "Vette Improvement Program", from an old issue of Vette Fever. However, it calls for making adjustments with a torque wrench that can accurately read as low as 3 INCH/pounds. I cannot find such a tool. Anyone know where one can be acquired and at a reasonable price for something that would get such little use?

Sturtevant-Richmont makes such a tool. This is a beam-type torque wrench which is most practical for this kind of measurement on steering gear and rear pinion pre-load adjustment. These can be purchased through SPX/Kent-Moore Tools under J-7754-C. I don't know what these things sell for these days; Kent-Moore tools have gone up astronomically, in most cases.

Snap-On also makes low range torque wrenches. However, they are of the "dial" or "micrometer" type. These might not be as practical for the work you're interested in. Plus, they might be out of the price range for a limited use tool.

One source for the type wrench you are talking about (there are others ). This is about what I paid for the one I have. 3 in lbs is not much.

Try your local bicycle shop; they may even lend it to you.

I only use a 0-30 in/lb dial wrench for this job. They run from $150- $300 the last I checked. That's a lot for one adjustment. If you're going to rebuild your differential then you'll use it for that too.
The good dial wrenches are right on the money for accuracy.
            Good luck
