C2/C3 - Flywheel

I am finally taking Joe Lucia's advice & replacing the flywheel on my C2 427/390 to correct some of Bubba's work. I did a google search using the flywheel part number given to me by Joe in an earlier post (GM #3991469). Found several locations specifically for corvette's all listed the part for around $180.

Google also directed me to several locations that claim to use this same flywheel # for their Jeep CJ's. One such site was

Here the flywheel is listed for $110.

The ad says "Bellhousing & Components 3991469 for 1972-86 Jeep CJ with V8 GM Flywheel ASM with standard Transmission.

Does anyone know for sure if this is the same flywheel as used in the C2/C3 corvettes?

Yes, I believe that it's the same. The reason for the difference in price is likely the fact that this is an aftermarket EQUIVALENT of the GM #3991469 and not a GM piece. These aftermarket flywheels are usually ok, though. You don't need to get them from this source, either. Your local auto parts store can probably get you an aftermarket equivalent of the GM #3991469. Also, you can get them from Northern Auto Parts for a very good price, too.
