66 big block oil pan bolt hole

Is there any other difference between an early 66 big block oil pan with a hole in the front that mates with the hole in the bottome of the timing chain cover vs 66+ or later big block oil pans without a hole (but w/ trap door and windage tray and supports)?

I can not find a specific difference other than the hole and am contemplaing getting a used one w/o a hole and just drilling it.

Thanks in advance for your input.

    Hal-----

The hole is the only difference. However, some later pans do not have the 4 corner reinforcements spot welded to the pan. The reinforcements can be purchased in the restoration marketplace and added. There's no need to spot weld them; the bolts will hold them on just fine.

How about those drain plugs with an "A"

Mr. Lucia: Thanks once again. I still have time to keep searching for an early oil pan before I am ready to re-install the engine, but as noted many different ways here, it is hard to justify $500 for some parts (like an oil pan).

At the same time, how about $110 for a drain plug. How many of us have been digging through our bolt cans to find a 7/8 with the circle A???? I sure have. I figure if I find 2 that will bring the oil pan back to regular price for me!! I love trading car parts.

      Thanks again.
