    63-64 disk brake conversion

Because salvageable GM brakes are becoming difficult to find, I'm entertaining using aftermarket disk brakes on my '64.

Has anyone out there had experiences (good or bad) with HotrodUSA's disk brake conversion for 63-64 vettes??

Basically, the kit is made up of Wilwood products, but I think HotrodUSA has a special hub made to accommodate 'zero' offset. I know Wilwood has a good reputation, but don't know about HotrodUSA.

I'm particularly interested in any difficulties encountered.

    Don,

No experience with disk brake conversions but every component required for a 63/4 drum brake set-up is availble new. No need to use salvage parts.

Unless you are planning some SERIOUS autocrossing, I wouldn't do it.

      Re: 63-64 disk brake conversion

Unless you are vintage racing, the properly built drum brakes will stop just as good as 65 up disc brakes without the leakage problem that can develop with disc brakes.

Put everything new in your drum brakes(springs, shoes, hoses, cylinders) and call a company like HAWK or PORTERFIELD ENTERPRISES for brake shoes with modern performance linings and you will wonder WHY you ever considered replacing the drum brakes.
