    re-use original balancer ?

I'm doing more engine detailing on my 67 BB, and have the balancer removed,
is it better to re-use the original one or not? Mine seems to be the original
as it seems to have the correct part number and is stamped in the outer ring in back B7.

The rubber between the outer ring and the inner part appears old and somewhat cracked but over all the balancer appears to be in good condition.

Would you clean it up and re-use it?

    Thanks,

    Steve

Unless you experienced a vibration or wobbling problem with the balancer, I would reuse it without any concern.

Since you have it off and if you clean it up and reuse it you could for future reference mark it with identifing marks to show if the outer and inner ring slip in the future which would help in identifing any changes.

I just got mine back from the Damper Doctor. He reglued it and cleaned it up for $100 shipped. Why take a chance, if it comes apart...yikes!

Is there a website or phone number for Damper Doctor?

            Thanks,

I also see that they restore motor mounts ! Anyone want to try that service?
Sounds interesting, but I be scared to find out the hard way that the rubber
                didn't hold together.

                Any thoughts?

The key way looks good, but I'm leaning towards replacing this one now that I've cleaned it up. There is a sleeve on the outer part of the shaft collar.
Don't know why? And it does look like some one may have taken a few licks at it with a hammer.

                    Thanks for the replies,

Typically a sleeve on the crank collar is there because the part has a wear groove caused by prolonged contact with the oil seal in the timing chain cover. This is a short term fix that allows a person to get a few more miles out of the part.

They work OK, but you want to pull the balancer and check it every 10K miles or so. If you see the groove beginning to return, replace the sleeve with a new one.
