Besides restoring a 63 SWC Fuelie, I also have a 71 El Camino SS 454 CI.
(I hope I am allowed to ask a GM related question, other than Corvette.
Since engine and transmission are similar to Corvettes, someone may have the answers)
The problem I am having is, when the engine is cold, when starting out in 1st gear, the cluch action is normal, that is, I can excellerate normally by letting the clutch slip a bit to get going.
When the engine is at normal temp (approx 160/180 degrees F), when starting from a stop in 1st gear, I experience a "shudder" when letting the clutch out. Even when I keep the engine RPM up.
What could be the cause if this ?
The trans is a "rockcrusher" 4 speed, Clutch apears to have very little travel, before it starts to grab, even when cold. Previous owner used car for drag racing, so the clutch may be set-up for this type of driving. Rear end has a 3.25 ratio, as close as I can tell. There is no emission stuff on the engine.
