    Muncie date codes

Every time I think I get close to figuring this out....

Okay, for a Muncie main case 3851325, application 64/65 Corvette, there is a difference between the 64 and 65 case. The 64 case has a rounded boss on top instead of square and the date code is on the lower right corner of the side cover flange. Some of the date codes on the side cover flange of the 64 3851325 case have a 3 or a 4 in a square after the numbers, e.g., P0606 with a 3 in a square. Is this referring to the year? Would this mean the case was assembled June 6 of 63? My books list the 3831704 main case for the whole 63 year.

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Muncie date codes

    Lawrence,

The 325 case is not stamp with a year designation. The date stamp will only tell you the month and day (June 6th in your example). The only way to determine whether it's a 64 or 65 is by the boss as you mentioned and the location of the date stamp and VIN. In model year 65 the date stamp was moved from by the side cover to along the vertical flange, as well as the VIN on the opposite side. Hope that helps.

Try Darrell shepard's web site (www.pipersauto.com/4speeds) If the numbers are not listed Darrell will know....
