    Lyndon------

Basically, nothing else for me. I use AC-Delco "Ultraguard" synthetic media filters in all of my cars. These filters have been discontinued for quite some time, but I laid in a "lifetime supply" of all the filter types I use. So, I'm pretty much "set for the duration". I have no real problem with regular AC Delco filters. As far as conventional media filters go, I think they are the best. For how long, who knows? I expect to see a lot of oil filter manufacturing consolidation in the future. My guess is that a lot of the business is going to go to Purolator. They make, in my opinion, only so-so filters.

The "Ultraguard" filters were not actually manufactured by AC or DELPHI; they were manufactured for AC-Delco by Champion Laboratories. While they no longer manufacture filters for AC-Delco, they do manufacture many of the other synthetic media filters out there---like Mobil 1, for example. They MAY also be the current manufacturer of the AC PF-35L synthetic media filter which I also recommend and use.

If I needed to, I would have no problem using any of the synthetic-media filters manufactured by Champion Laboratories. Also, I would use conventional media filters manufactured by WIX (Dana Corporation). These are the only filters I would be comfortable with.

I use the AC Delco PF-141 filter for both my 66 and 67, and regular AC Delco spin on's for my daily drivers.

I use Wix on my cars and farm equipment. Somewhere there is reference to a study someone did on filters. Wix made one of the better oil filters. Surprisingly, Fram was rated very low (but with good marketing) . I do not recall how Delco was rated.

Here is the link to the study I mentioned in the previous post. It is from an earlier discussion on this board.

what is wrong with the purolator filter? you say it is so so, I thought this filter was rated high. you said you like champion filters, they make the mobil 1 filter. do you know if the mobil 1 filter has one that is as long as a PF35L?
are they like the old PF25 in size.
            thanks Joe

The Mobil-1 p/n that cross references to a PF 35 is Ml -302. It is the same size as a Pf35 and costs about $10 at Pep Boys.

Joe, of course I have seen lots of AC Delco filters, especially in the McParts stores, such as Advance Auto and Auto Zone. I have not yet found a source for the Ultraguard filters by AC. What is your source?

                    Thanks,

                      Gary------

The only current source is someone that might have old stock laying around. All of the Ultraguard filters were discontinued by Delco about 2-3 years ago.
