    C-5 corvettes

i guess most of the guys on this board are into older corvettes but i was wondering how many of you own the new C-5s?(best vette yet IMHO) also how many of you have restored corvettes that you may have owned back in the good old days or is it a car you wanted back then but could not afford. just wondering but i do a lot of that now days, and somtimes i can not find my way back!

Motorman first let me say that the C5 is a fine car, wish I had room for a 2000 model. Still have our original owner 68 convertible and 70 coupe. Also have a older model 85 and wanting the C4 last year of production I purchased a new 96 coupe with the LT4 option instead of buying a C5. Haven't regretted my decision on buying the LT4. I am looking forward to seeing what the C6 is going to be. Have read it will be introduced in 2004.

Clem -- My C-5 went into production last week. Unlike Jim, I cannot afford to own a garage-full of corvettes. I may probably keep my '70 350/370, but I sold off my Polo Green '94 conv. I have owned many, many corvettes since '68, all of them daily-drivers on the hour-long commute on the expressway. I still think about some of my mid-year cars, my '71 454/425, or my '75 convs.

However, having driven C-5's (both my neighbor and my ex-boss have them), I trust that my new 6-speed conv. will be a blast. I notice that my eyes are going south, rapidly, so this just may be my last hurrah in a corvette -- I therefore bought a new one that I could specify, rather than just accept what I couldfind on the used car market.

me too, i could not afford to keep all 6 of my other corvettes either,i had to sell one to buy the next one. this may be heresy on this site but i would not trade my C-5 for all 6 of my previous corvettes. something about driving around on 6:75x 15 tires just does not excite me. no flames intended.

Great cars - I ran the Silver State Challenge here in Nevada last year in a 1999 Cvt, and had a blast. Ran in the 105MPH class, set the cruise on 105, and averaged 104.28 for the 90 miles. Incidentally we finished 10th in the class. Am ordering one as soon as my 2200 sf garage is finished.

            MM,

Mine was 25 years of wanting (school, 4x4, wife, kid, ex-wife,..). So after the wait, I went and bought a '71 and a '69 last year. From what I'm learning here, it's a helluva a hobby!

I didn't owned a vette in the old days, just was dreaming about it in my country (Argentina). Remember The Magician, a so so TV serial about Bil Bixby chasing the bud guys in a Vette!! I used to watch that program and got fascinated with the white 74 (in the pilot episode it is a 73). Later I learned about shark history, and really appreciated 68/72 cars with its classic chrome style and great performance. My time arrived some years ago when finally a 70 was imported to my country and things moved at a faster pace. This is a great hobby, I found very interesting to research the car, its configuration and restore it not just for the points (no way to judge my car for now) but to recreate the original car. Lot of fun and new friends even at long distance! C5 is beautiful but it is a new, high tech car, no restoration necesary yet, not of my old times, a different feeling than the shark. WE have our 65 coupe we bought new in 65, sold it in 68 and got back in 1980. That is another story. Did the Founder's Award in it in 1998. Is a nice car to drive with 4-speed, but no A/C. We had a 95 that we sold for a 99 coupe. Have 18M on the 99 in 18 months. It is a great car to drive for long trips; esp in the summer with A/C. Both are easy to get in/out of, not like the 95. Think the 99 will out topend the 65, but not by much. Tires are a bit different though.

You must have a very slow C5 if your 65 Corvette would come close to topping out with the C5. Do you have a 396 65?
