    C2 under dash insulation

Is there an acceptable functioning substitute for the plug fasteners fo the under dash insulation, or is it best to use the plugs, even though (as I have read) they are a pain to install?

    Re: C2 under dash insulation

They are dificult to install.. but can be done. Use some fish line and with a helper pull the plug thru while pushing with a blunt round screw driver shaft (end cut off) Some WD40 also helps. You just work the point thru... after one or two you'll get the technique. Be careful not to punch a hole in the plug with the screwdriver. It is only used toguide the plug into the hole. Most of the effort should be from the pointed end.
When purchasing, get a few spares just n case

Do the tips of the rubber plugs...

which go through the firewall have blackout paint on them? In other words, was the firewall blacked out in the engine bay before the insulation was installed? Thanks, PT

No blackout paint. Blackout was done before assy started. Only riveted devices were installed before paint. (Check out the photo in Nolan Adams book of a firewall during body assy) There possibly is a black sealant on the plugs just like on the heater box exterior joint.

          Thanks Steve,
Found the black sealant at the plugs, believed it was original but never knew for sure.

No doubt about sealant on the plugs..,

Thanks Steve. Here is the original firewall surface, as it left St. Louis. The job number is #294. PT
