    There's no way

GM could have built more than about 3 69's a day unless they were coupes. it takes approximately 4 hours to install the rear deck hinges.

I thought GM management pushed production of model year 1969 up to 8 cars an hour.

Mac, think about the guys who did that job at St. Louis during the '68 launch; production was 100% convertibles from September through January

Think about how they were installed and then ask your self about how much trouble you are putting yourself through just for perfection.

When you install a deck lid before the body is painted you do not have to be careful. After all, if the lid gaps don't fit the way you like just grind off the edges to mach both sides. If the level of the lid to the body is off just shim the hinge.

It's a shame that we now consider what was great during the production years, as second best when we build or repair our own cars. I must admit that I also wonder why, it is tacking me so long to work on my car now compared to then, when I had 6 minuted to do a job on each Corvette that went buy. I worry more about the little items I see now than before when I did not have time to consider them, when we were build the originals.

            I feel you pain.
