    C2 Hood adjusting Pins

I just put a new piece of weatherstripping on the back underside of the hood on my '64 roadster and now need to adjust the hood pins for proper height of the rear hood. The pins appear to have a "jam nut" at their base. Does this nut have to be loosened before screwing the pins either in or out How do you get a wrench on the jam nut to loosen it since it is inside the spring? The base of the hood pin that holds the hood spring has a notched edge that could conceivably be turned. Does this item screw out or is it simply the base that holds the spring?

    Thanks....

    Garry,

The male pins adjust with just a large screw driver in the slot at the point of the cone. The threaded nut is actually an integrated part of the base. You just need to turn the pin while holding the base to adjust. The adjustment for the male hood pin is specified in the AIM at 1.48 inches.

The part you more likely need to adjust is the hood bumper screw on the female latches. It does have a jam nut on top of the assembly that must be loose in order to adjust. The nut underneath is welded to the assembly. I've heard from others that have used silly putty on the hood bumper to adjust. Once you can close the hood and the silly putty is squashed thin enough to see through to the bumper underneath, it should be adjusted properly. You can then tighten the jam nut on the female hood latch to secure. Hope that helps.

Loosen the notched "nut" and then unscrew the entire pin out of the hood. Use the hood bumper on the latches to set the height of the hood, then install the pins and make adjustments to make the hood latch by holding the nut and turning the pin in or out.
