    C2 66 windshield pillar help

I am looking for some installation tips on the windshild pillar rubber weatherstrip on my 66 convertible. I have all the old rubber removed and dry fitted the new ones today.

I know once I add the weatherstrip adhesive it will be more difficult as once the weatherstip touches the mating surface is does not move.

    1. What is the best way to tuck the weatherstrip "lips" into the retaining strip grooves? I am afraid a screwdriver will tear the rubber.

2 How do you locate the top rubber edge? Slightly compress against the conv. top rubber?

    Thanks

Have not done a 66, but have used a plastic applicator one would use for spreading, mixing, and applying body filler.

Along with the last post, popcicle sticks and tongue depressors work well. They are available at craft shops in various sizes. Plastic kitchen spatulas (soft and ridged) work well. Alot of the time depending on the car and application, I use little to none of the adheasive. Although where water intrusion is concerned it gets a liberal coating. Dont stretch the seal, install in a relaxed state. As far as locating the top ridge a general rule applies here to most cars. Allow for the seal to settle and shrink but not so tight as it prevents proper alignment of panel.

I use a fiber stick for seating weatherstrips in retainer channels; we have lots of them in the plants for that kind of work. I think Eastwood has several varieties of them.

          Hi Randy,
When you install the windshield post W/S make sure it extends far enough at the top so that it contacts the W/S on the convert top. The judging manual states 1/2 to 1 inch but just make sure it will contact the top. We judged several cars this past weekend and most recieved a minor deduct because there was a gap at the upper end of the post W/S/
